Can my son attend a campout without his father?

Generally a father or adult male figure accompanies a boy on male-focused campouts, but that is not an absolute barrier. Contact a troop leader. Arrangements can sometimes be made for a boy to attend under the supervision of an appropriate leader.

What if my son doesn’t have a father or adult male who can attend?

He is still welcome in Troop 4110. Father participation is encouraged, not required. If an activity is focused on boys and adult men, contact a troop leader; arrangements have been made in the past for boys to attend under the supervision of a qualified leader.

Can a grandfather or another adult male participate with my son?

Often, yes. Grandfathers and other trusted adult men can play an important role in a boy’s Trail Life experience. Participation in activities and any formal adult role must follow the troop’s and Trail Life USA’s current requirements.

Does a father have to participate for his son to join Trail Life?

No. A father's participation is not required for a boy to join or participate in Troop 4110. We understand that every family's circumstances are different.

When possible, however, we strongly encourage fathers to become involved. Fathers can become Registered Adults, help during Thursday meetings, attend campouts and activities, serve alongside their sons, and build relationships with other men in the troop.

We believe these shared experiences can strengthen the relationship between fathers and sons. They also surround boys with other like-minded Christian men who can encourage them, challenge them, and serve as positive role models.

Grandfathers and other trusted adult male figures can also play an important role.
